Obama Overturns
Mexico City Policy
Takes First Step To Implement Radical Abortion Policy
Barack Obama took the first step toward implementing his
radical abortion policies by signing an executive order to
overturn the Mexico City Policy. The policy prohibits
taxpayer funding to organizations that perform or promote
abortion as a method of family planning in other nations.
That order will give hundreds of millions of taxpayer
dollars to organizations like International Planned
Parenthood that aggressively promote abortion as a
population control tool in the developing world
Taxpayers should not pay for abortion-not here, not
anywhere. Whatever Americans think about abortion, they do
not support taxpayer funding for abortion.
During the campaign, Mr. Obama told the
American people that he would support policies to reduce
abortions. Today's action guarantees more abortions by
funding groups like International Planned Parenthood.
Today's action is also the first step to implementing
Obama's radical and sweeping abortion agenda which will
increase abortion and turn back 20 years of decreases in
the number of abortions.
That agenda includes repeal of the Hyde Amendment. The
Hyde Amendment has prohibited taxpayer funding of abortion
for over 30 years. NARAL
Pro-Choice America suggests that the Hyde Amendment
alone "forces about half the women who would otherwise
have abortions to carry unintended pregnancies to term and
bear children against their wishes instead." There are 1.2
million abortions a year and 45 million abortions since
the Hyde Amendment.
Planned Parenthood cites studies suggesting a lower but
substantial number: "18-35% of women who would have
had an abortion continued their pregnancies after Medicaid
funding was cut" if the Hyde amendment did not exist.
That's a lot of babies saved by just one piece of
legislation that doesn't ban abortion. Who knows how many
will be lost if the Hyde Amendment if revoked. Many today
owe their existences to Congressman Henry Hyde and the
right to life movement.
Readers of Nevada LIFE news know that this is only the tip
of the iceberg, but there's no room for pro-lifers to
despair. Mr. Obama did not win because he is pro-
abortion. He won in spite of it. We've lowered the
abortion rate, lowered the number of abortions (including
a stunning 8 percent between 2000-2005), have seen a
substantial turn in public attitudes on abortion, the
young are pro-life, technology makes our case that the
unborn is a human being and, the pain of abortion is
clear.
We need to keep being good ambassadors for our cause by
spreading our message with grace and truth, by standing up
for the unborn with our votes, with notes and calls to
legislators and newspapers when needed, by going to
hearings, helping good people get elected, hosting
educational and information meetings, supporting our
crisis pregnancy centers and maternity homes and more. To
stop now would be to turn our back on the millions of
unborn children who need our help.
We'll need your support in the days ahead. Contact us to
schedule an educational- informational and organizing
meeting.
