A short phone call and/or email is needed by every pro-life Nevadan and others who oppose tax payer funding of abortion and the escalation of abortion to make sure that Nevada's Representatives oppose and exclude abortion as part of any health care bill. Abortion Must Be Excluded From Any Health Care Reform Bill The United States Congress, along with leading abortion advocacy groups, is trying to cover and fund abortion through the health care reform plans being considered in Congress. These proposals would also override state abortion laws like parental notification, conscience laws, partial birth abortion bans, informed consent, clinic regulations and more. The push is on to ram a health care through bill by end of this month before the Congressional recess in August. Time is short. Your call or email to our Nevada representatives is urgent. If a health care bill passes without excluding abortion coverage, we could see as many as one-half million more abortions every year. Action Request. Harry Reid Is Leading The Health Care Charge. "Pro-life" Senator Harry Reid needs calls and emails more than anyone. He is America's powerful Senator and is leading the health care reform charge. He told the Weekly Standard in March that "he could support a national health care bill that provided coverage for abortion," even though Reid claims to be pro-life. Funding Abortion Will Substantially Increase Abortion. Funding abortion through health care reform, Title X or any other taxpayer funding will dramatically increase the number of abortions and set back the progress we've made. Abortion advocates know this and are salivating at the hundreds of millions of extra dollars they stand to gain. The Hyde Amendment has banned US taxpayer funding of abortion for 35 years. It has substantially helped America reduce the abortion rate by one third and the number of abortions by 25 percent. Abortion leader NARAL Pro-Choice America suggests (see p. 2) that the Hyde Amendment alone "forces about half the women who would otherwise have abortions to carry unintended pregnancies to term and bear children against their wishes instead." There are 1.2 million abortions a year and 45 million abortions since the Hyde Amendment. Planned Parenthood cites studies suggesting a lower but substantial number: "18- 35% of women who would have had an abortion continued their pregnancies after Medicaid funding was cut" if the Hyde amendment did not exist. Those numbers are staggering. Millions of Americans are alive today because of that one amendment banning taxpayer funding of abortion. Two hundred thousand to one half million more abortions of innocent, defenseless unborn children could be killed ever year if abortion is included in any federal health care bill. State protections regarding minors, conscience provisions, partial birth abortion, informed consent and more are also at risk. Please call and/or email our Senators and your Congressman. It's wrong to force taxpayers to pay for abortion. America can't handle another half million abortions every year or the pains that come with it.
