LIFE condemns the
cloning of a new human
being for research by
Advanced Cell
Technologies (ACT). A
spokesman for ACT says
the cloning and creation
of human embryos means
we can create body
parts.
Nevada
LIFE condemns this
research because it
reduces these tiny
humans to mere
commodities to be bought
and sold or manipulated
for the benefit of
others. Since humans are
never to serve as means
to another’s ends
without consent, it is
wrong to use them for
research.
Proponents of this
research indicate that
these human creations
are just a few cells, as
if the quantity of one’s
cells conveys humanity.
If cloning is allowed
for research at this
stage, there is nothing
to stop these human
embryos from growing to
several days, several
weeks or several months
before killing them for
cellular research or
their fully formed body
parts.
These
are just some of the
reasons why the U.S.
House of Representatives
passed the Weldon-Stupak
bill (H.R. 2505) this
summer. This bill would
ban all cloning of human
beings, including human
embryos,. These reasons
are also why the Senate
must act on this
immediately and approve
the ban on human
cloning.
